At least 40 Spanish citizens have died, 138 remain missing, and eleven are trapped under the rubble as a result of the double earthquake measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale that struck Venezuela on June 24, according to the latest data provided this Thursday by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.
In statements to the Telecinco program “La Mirada Crítica,” Albares also noted that the team from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the START (Spanish Technical Aid Response Team) field hospital, comprised of 44 volunteer healthcare professionals, logisticians, and cooks, are “fully deployed” and that the medical center has “surgical capacity” and attends to approximately 220 people daily.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly announced that all consular emergency lines are open and can be accessed through the Ministry’s and the Embassy’s social media accounts in Caracas. The overall death toll from the double earthquake, which struck northern Venezuela forty seconds apart, is 3,811, according to the latest official figures announced this Thursday by the President of Venezuela. The Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez. Separately, it is estimated that there are around 50,000 missing persons, according to unconfirmed sources from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
