Foreign Ministry announces openings for Consul General in Rome, Marseille, Perpignan, Toulouse, and Munich

The Diplomat The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published the first special 2026 call for applications for positions abroad for career diplomats, specifically to fill the positions of Consul General in Rome, Marseille, Perpignan, Toulouse, and Munich, the Cultural Affairs Office at the Embassy in Venezuela, and the Deputy Head of Mission positions in Qatar and North Macedonia. According to the resolution, signed on June 17 by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Xavier Martí Martí, and published this Wednesday, June 24, in the Official State Gazette (BOE), this “first special call for applications 2026” is exclusively for career diplomats. The positions will be filled through direct appointment, “following a non-binding proposal from the Diplomatic Service Board, although such a proposal will not be required for the filling of positions expressly indicated,” the text adds. None of the vacant positions have been marked with an asterisk, which would have authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, to fill the positions without needing the opinion of the Diplomatic Service Board, an advisory body composed of diplomats.
