The Foreign Ministry launches its new summer campaign #ViajaSeguro to prevent incidents abroad

The Diplomat The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched its annual summer campaign #ViajaSeguro (#TravelSafe) to raise public awareness about the precautions that should be taken before any trip abroad. The campaign informs about the tools offered by the Ministry to minimize risks and recommends registering with the Traveler Registry before any trip, as well as consulting the Travel Advice on the Ministry's website. It also emphasizes the importance of purchasing travel insurance with health coverage that includes hospitalization and repatriation expenses before traveling abroad. "Having travel insurance facilitates access to the necessary care, which in certain countries can be particularly expensive," it warns. The Ministry's website provides access to the Travel Advice, which includes useful and up-to-date information for each country. At the beginning of these recommendations is a section on “Important Notes” which includes an alert level for each country, as well as information on the necessary travel documents, vaccinations, and safety conditions to consider. Before traveling abroad, the Ministry also recommends registering with the Traveler Registry, which allows Spanish authorities to locate or contact, if possible, registered Spanish travelers in the event of a serious emergency. This tool is completely free and offers all the necessary confidentiality guarantees. In case of need, the 88 Spanish Consulates General abroad, as well as the two Spanish Consulates and the 90 Consular Sections in Spanish Embassies, attend to any emergency that may arise. In 2025, Spanish consular offices handled approximately 9,000 collective and individual emergencies abroad, as reflected in the latest consular activity report. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers a 24/7 emergency hotline for emergencies, including assistance for victims of gender-based violence and general consular protection. The #ViajaSeguro campaign also calls on travelers to act responsibly, reminding them that once abroad, they are subject to the laws of their destination country, whose rules and regulations they must observe and respect at all times.
