The Madrid Book Fair hosts the Ibero-American Pavilion of the Foreign Ministry for the second time

The Diplomat The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will participate in the Madrid Book Fair for the second consecutive year through the Ibero-American Pavilion, which will be dedicated to the cultural diversity of the Ibero-American community and will have humor as its central theme. As the Ministry reported in a press release on Tuesday, in its first edition in 2015, the Ibero-American Pavilion became the most visited by the public, with more than 70 scheduled activities. “This year, the pavilion takes on even greater relevance as it serves as a platform to raise awareness of the 30th Ibero-American Summit, which will be held in Madrid next November,” the Ministry added. From May 29 to June 14, the Ibero-American Pavilion has planned more than 50 activities for all audiences related to the cultural expressions of the Ibero-American countries, their authors, their cultural realities, and the role that Spanish, Portuguese, and the native languages of Ibero-American countries play in the world. Among the free activities for all ages are tributes to Maitena, Jorge Ibagüengoitia, Rafael Azcona, and Alfredo Bryce Echenique; translators' workshops; a discussion on Puerto Rican Spanish; and various panels that will reflect on the limits of humor and the influence of this genre in Ibero-American literature. More than 200 authors will participate in the activities, including figures such as Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, Andrés Barba, Darío Adanti, Brenda Navarro, Leila Guerriero, Sabina Urraca, María Fernanda Ampuero, Paulina Flores, Juan Pablo Villalobos, Laura Chivite, Raquel Peláez, Bob Pop, Flavita Banana, and Marta Sanz. Also noteworthy is the 3rd Ibero-American Meeting of University and Academic Presses, organized by the UNE (Spanish Union of Publishers), which aims to reaffirm the strategy in favor of Spanish and Portuguese as languages of science and research. Book launch by Ángel Viñas In the context of the opening of the Madrid Book Fair, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, will participate this Wednesday in the launch of the new book by diplomat and historian Ángel Viñas, “At the Service of Democracy: The Diplomats of the Republic and the Price of Loyalty,” dedicated to the work of the diplomats of the Second Republic and their purging by the Franco regime.
