The Embassy of Poland commemorates Constitution Day in Madrid

The Diplomat Last Wednesday, the residence of the Polish Embassy in Spain hosted an official reception to celebrate Constitution Day on May 3rd, one of Poland's most important national holidays and a historical symbol of European constitutionalism. The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Spain, civil and military authorities, business leaders, and members of various institutional and cultural sectors in Madrid. The evening was marked by a reaffirmation of the European project, cooperation between allies, and the strengthening of Spanish-Polish relations. The reception was presided over by the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Poland in Spain, Monika Krzepkowska, who focused her remarks on the political and historical significance of the 1791 Constitution, considered the first modern constitution in Europe and the second in the world after the United States Constitution. During her speech, the diplomatic representative underscored the enduring relevance of the values that inspired the founding document and defended the need to preserve the European commitment in an international context characterized by strategic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. “Freedom cannot stand alone. It needs strong institutions, respect for the rule of law, and a policy guided by principles,” she stated, before reaffirming Poland’s role as an actor committed to the future of the European Union. “Europe needs reforms, yes, but the future of the continent must be built on the foundations of the European Union, not on its ruins,” she added. The speech was also marked by references to European security and the war in Ukraine. The chargé d'affaires warned that Russian aggression and growing international instability necessitate strengthening cohesion both within NATO and the European Union, insisting that “indifference is not neutral” in the face of the threats facing the continent. In this context, she emphasized the cooperation between Poland and Spain and expressed particular gratitude for Spain's involvement on NATO's eastern flank. She also highlighted the strength of bilateral relations and the growth of political, economic, and trade exchanges between the two countries. The diplomatic representative also dedicated part of her remarks to Poland's economic evolution in recent decades, underscoring the transformation the country has undergone since the fall of communism, becoming one of the most dynamic economies in Europe. In this regard, she argued that Poland's economic growth is due to the "work, determination, and ambition" of Polish society, as well as to institutional stability and European integration. Alongside the political and institutional dimension, the reception incorporated a significant cultural and gastronomic component, typical of such diplomatic celebrations. Attendees enjoyed a selection of Polish products and specialties reinterpreted with a contemporary approach by chefs who traveled from Poland for the occasion. The evening also benefited from the collaboration of several Polish companies and organizations, including the pharmaceutical company ADamed and the Polish Tourism Organization. During the event, various regions of the country, such as Lower Silesia, were promoted, and the growing international recognition of Polish gastronomy was highlighted. Among the featured products was Polish caviar, whose production was presented as an example of tradition, excellence, and sustainability. As is customary at national celebrations organized by diplomatic missions, the gathering also served as a forum for dialogue and networking among institutional representatives, diplomats, and stakeholders from the business and cultural sectors, reinforcing the role of such receptions as tools of public diplomacy and the strengthening of bilateral relations. The celebration concluded with a toast to the friendship between Poland and Spain, to European unity, and to peace and security on the continent, in an evening marked by a pro-European tone and a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to stability and international cooperation.
