Sánchez to participate in the 8th meeting of the European Political Community in Armenia on Monday

Eduardo González The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will participate this Monday in Armenia in the eighth meeting of the European Political Community, which will address, among other issues, democratic resilience, connectivity, and economic and energy security. This eighth edition will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, under the theme “Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe.” The meeting will bring together 48 heads of state and government, including the 27 EU member states and countries from Europe and the Caucasus, with Canada participating as a guest country. The summit will be co-chaired by António Costa, President of the European Council, and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia. After participating, along with the other participants, in the official greeting of Nikol Pashinyan and in the opening ceremony of the European Political Community, Sánchez will speak at the round table 'Democratic resilience and hybrid threats'. The discussions will focus on cooperation to strengthen democratic resilience, advances in connectivity, and the strengthening of economic and energy security in Europe. The meeting will take place before the first bilateral EU-Armenia summit and is framed within the context of geopolitical transformations on the continent. The initiative, launched in 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron to strengthen cooperation and alliances among all the countries of the continent, brings together the leaders of the 27 EU member states and twenty other European countries, including Ukraine, Armenia, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Kosovo, and Azerbaijan, for a total of 47. In addition, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has been invited to participate as a guest. This will be the first time a non-European country has participated in this meeting. The summit will conclude with a leaders' dinner hosted by Vahagn Khachaturian, President of the Republic of Armenia, and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. The first Summit was held in Prague in October 2022, and subsequent summits took place in Moldova, Spain (specifically Granada, in October 2023, during Spain's Presidency of the Council of the EU), the United Kingdom, Hungary, Albania, and Copenhagen. The next summits will be held in Ireland in the autumn of 2026, Switzerland in the spring of 2027, Greece in the autumn of 2027, Azerbaijan in the spring of 2028, and Latvia in the autumn of 2028.
