European Commissioner for Energy and Housing visits Spain to address energy security and housing

Ane Barcos European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, will visit Spain on the 20th and 21st to discuss issues such as energy security, affordability, and measures to address the housing crisis affecting both Spain and the European Union with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, other members of the government, national and local authorities, industry stakeholders, and young people. The Commissioner's agenda, the third stop on a European tour focused on affordable housing that has already included Austria and Portugal, will begin on Monday in Barcelona, where he will visit Fusion for Energy (F4E), the European Union organization based in the city responsible for the European contribution to ITER, the world's largest fusion energy experiment. During his stay in the Catalan capital, he will meet with the President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, to discuss housing policies. Collboni is part of the European Alliance of Mayors for Housing, comprised of nearly twenty cities with the aim of ensuring that municipalities participate in the design of housing policies at the European level. The Commissioner will also chair a Youth Dialogue on Housing, in which young people from diverse backgrounds will exchange ideas on housing access problems and possible future solutions. On Tuesday, he will travel to Madrid, where he will meet with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the Third Vice-President and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen. That same day, he will participate in the ESADE Energy Annual Meeting, focused on affordable, secure, and clean energy in Europe, and will deliver an opening address at the annual WindEurope 2026 event. During his stay in the capital, he will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez. This trip is part of a European tour on affordable housing. Spain is the third stop, following visits to Austria and Portugal. The European Commission is promoting the Affordable Housing Act, aimed at establishing a common framework to address the effects of short-term rentals and promote access to housing in disadvantaged areas across the European Union.
