Actress and former model Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, Ghana’s new ambassador to Spain

Eduardo González Ghanaian President John Mahama has officially appointed renowned actress and former model Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe as her country's ambassador to Spain, according to Ghanaian press reports. The appointment took place on March 17, with the formal presentation of credentials to Sinare Baffoe. In his remarks during the ceremony, President Mahama expressed his confidence in the ambassador's ability to effectively represent Ghana's interests abroad, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Spain, which offer "enormous potential" for economic and development cooperation. Born in April 1967, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe has appeared in more than fifty films. She also represented Ghana in the 1990 Miss Model of the World pageant and was a regular television model. A Muslim and avowed supporter of the National Democratic Congress party, the new ambassador participated in John Mahama's 2013 inauguration and again supported the president in the 2016 elections, in which he was defeated. Mahama returned to power in 2015. Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe is the sister of Ghanaian politician and former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Said Sinare. As ambassador, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe will be tasked with promoting Ghana's foreign policy objectives, strengthening diplomatic ties, and facilitating investment and collaboration opportunities between the two nations. According to local media, her appointment could be interpreted as a strategic move to enhance Ghana's "soft power" on the international stage through "a combination of cultural diplomacy and international engagement," thanks to the new ambassador's extensive experience in the film industry and Ghanaian public service. Several observers have stated that her appointment could further improve Ghana's image in Spain, opening new avenues for cooperation in sectors such as art, tourism, and international trade.
