The British Embassy organizes a charity concert to provide energy to homes in Ukraine

On Monday 23 March, the British Embassy in Spain held the fourth edition of the concert United for Ukraine at the Liceo Francés in Madrid. 

 

The funds raised from the inflows, some €6,500, will be used to help maintain energy supplies in Ukraine’s homes, hospitals and schools at a time when thousands of families are suffering ongoing attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure. which have left millions of people without electricity, heating or water.

 

The concert featured a live performance by Cultural Forces, the cultural arm of the Ukrainian Armed Forces; the prestigious Talia Group, the Ukrainian children’s choir Peredzvin and the diplomatic chorus, which includes the British ambassador, Alex Ellis, the Ukrainian ambassador, Yuliia Sokolovska, and the Swedish ambassador, Per-Arne Hjelmborn.

 

The British ambassador said that “every note that has been sounded tonight reflects the strength and determination of the Ukrainian people. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have made this concert of solidarity possible and to those who contribute to keeping the commitment with Ukraine alive.”

 

For her part, the Ukrainian ambassador noted that “in these difficult times for Ukraine, which has now spent its fifth year fighting bravely against the aggressor, it is extremely important to feel the support of the international community. The annual United for Ukraine concert unites people through co-creation for a common goal: aid, solidarity, justice and humanity. We sincerely thank all those who have joined this initiative and support the Ukrainian people.”

 

In addition to members of the Diplomatic Corps stationed in Madrid, the concert was attended by institutional representatives and personalities from the world of culture and communication. You can still support this solidarity initiative by making a donation through the official event page.

 

This concert is a demonstration of the solidarity commitment of the British embassy to Ukraine, which in previous editions has raised €20,000 for the campaign of armored ambulances of the Ukrainian embassy and for demining operations on Ukrainian territory.

 

Cultural Forces is the cultural arm of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, offering performances both in Ukraine and on international stages, bringing Ukrainian culture and spirit to the world. The Ukrainian Children’s Choir Peredzvin is led by Liliia Tkachuk and consists of boys and girls born in Spain or who arrived at a very young age, to whom have been joined children who had to leave Ukraine because of the war. They have participated in Ukrainian concerts and festivals throughout Spain, including previous editions of the concert United for Ukraine.

 

For its part, the Talía Group, created in 1996, participates since 2011 in the concerts of the National Auditorium together with the Metropolitan Orchestra of Madrid. He has collaborated with numerous orchestras, both Spanish and international.

 

Finally, the Diplomatic Choir, created in 2023 at the initiative of the British Embassy on the occasion of the first edition of this solidarity concert, is made up of employees of diplomatic missions accredited in Spain, including the embassies of the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

 

British Ambassador Alex Ellis addressed the audience and expressed his joy and pride at the large attendance of the concert.
