Foreign Ministry and La Caixa sign agreement to promote Spanish art in major European capitals

The Diplomat The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and the Director General of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Josep Maria Coronas, signed a strategic agreement this Thursday to promote the international dissemination of Spanish artistic creation in major European capitals. The agreement establishes a multi-year traveling exhibition plan that will bring works from the “la Caixa” Foundation’s Contemporary Art Collection to European capitals through Spanish embassies, as reported by both parties in separate press releases. The first exhibition will open in the coming months at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin and will be on display until autumn. The exhibition, titled “Fragments, Quotations and Passages: The “la Caixa” Foundation’s Contemporary Art Collection,” comprises fifteen paintings and sculptures by 20th-century Spanish artists renowned for their quality and international significance. The exhibition will begin with Joan Miró's "Le lion" (1925), an example of his early forays into Surrealism. After its run in Berlin, the exhibition will travel to the embassies in Paris, London, and Brussels, with dates yet to be determined. The "la Caixa" Foundation is one of Europe's leading philanthropic organizations, committed to social progress and cultural development. Established in 1985, the "la Caixa" Foundation's Contemporary Art Collection comprises nearly 1,100 works by artists such as Gerhard Richter, Antoni Tàpies, Cindy Sherman, Doris Salcedo, and Mona Hatoum, and is considered one of the most important private collections in Europe.
