Seventy percent of Spaniards reject the US-Israeli offensive against Iran

The Diplomat Nearly seventy percent of Spaniards feel “strongly or quite strongly” opposed to the joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran, and more than 85 percent believe this situation jeopardizes international peace. These are some of the conclusions of the March 2026 Barometer, published this Wednesday by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS). Along with the usual questions about voting intentions and leader evaluations, the survey includes a topic on the situation in the Middle East and the actions of the United States in the region. The study was conducted from March 2 to 6 through 4,016 interviews. On the one hand, 64.3 percent of those surveyed are “very or quite concerned” about the Middle East conflict, which began on February 28 with the US and Israeli offensive against Iran, including the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and escalated with retaliatory attacks by the Islamic Republic against a dozen countries in the region. In addition, 17.1 percent are “somewhat concerned” and 15.4 percent are “not very or not at all concerned.” Furthermore, 69.2 percent of those surveyed say that the actions of the United States and Israel provoke “a great deal or quite a lot of rejection” in them, while 24.5 percent say that they generate “little or no rejection.” On the other hand, a large majority—85.4 percent—believe that this situation jeopardizes international peace. Regarding other issues, the March barometer gives the PSOE the electoral victory if the elections were held now, with 31.8 percent of the vote. The PP would receive 23.2 percent, VOX 16.6 percent, SUMAR 7.1 percent, and Podemos 2.9 percent. Furthermore, the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is the highest-rated political leader, with an average score of 4.43. He is followed by the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Yolanda Díaz, of SUMAR, with 4.23; Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the PP, with 3.60; and Santiago Abascal, leader of Vox, with 2.99. Pedro Sánchez is also the favorite as Prime Minister for 40.3 percent of those surveyed who give their opinion, quite far ahead (24.9 points difference) of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who remains at 15.4 percent and returns to second place ahead of Santiago Abascal, who is the favorite for 14.8 percent; Gabriel Rufián, of ERC, climbs positions and is now preferred by 9.1 percent.
