Milei insults Pedro Sánchez again at far-right event in Madrid

Eduardo González Argentine President Javier Milei once again used a far-right event in Madrid to lash out at Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, whom he called "unpresentable." Milei made these remarks on Saturday, March 14, during the closing of the Madrid Economic Forum 2026, a forum of far-right economists, business leaders, and politicians. The Argentine president arrived in Spain on Friday and, as on his previous trips to the country as president of Argentina, did so without scheduling any meetings with the Spanish government, according to the official presidential agenda. Before participating in the event, he was received by the leader of the far-right Vox party, Santiago Abascal. At this meeting, Milei appeared wearing a YPF work jumpsuit, as seen in the image released by the Presidency. At the event in Madrid, Milei accused Sánchez and the other Socialist presidents of being responsible for “all the tremendous regulatory mountains” that are hindering “growth in Europe,” and called the Socialists “filthy leftists.” “Whether they like it or not, Western values are Judeo-Christian. If we all followed the Ten Commandments and understood the deadly sins, the filthy garbage of socialism would be wiped off the face of the earth so that we could all prosper,” he added to cheers. Milei concluded his speech with a shout of “Long live freedom, damn it!” which was met with insults directed at Pedro Sánchez by the attendees. Both the insults directed at Sánchez and the disrespect shown to Spanish authorities have been a common feature of all of Milei's visits to Spain since he took office. In May 2024, he used his speech at a Vox event to (without explicitly mentioning the Prime Minister or his wife, Begoña Gómez, but clearly alluding to both) lash out against “socialism” and against “people entrenched in power (…) even if he has a corrupt wife and takes five days to reconsider.” Following Milei’s remarks, Albares recalled his ambassador in Buenos Aires, María Jesús Alonso, for consultations and demanded an apology from the Argentine president. Milei returned to Spain on June 21 of that year to receive the Juan de Mariana Freedom Award. During this second trip, he received the International Medal of the Community of Madrid from the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, before whom he lashed out at politicians who “have porous hands,” whether “directly, through a sibling, or through a partner.” These words were interpreted in very different ways (since they could be applied to Sánchez, as Milei intended, or to Díaz Ayuso herself). Javier Milei returned to Spain in June 2025 and, as on the two previous occasions, once again belittled the King and any other representative of the State. Taking advantage of his speech at the previous edition of the Madrid Economic Forum, he called Pedro Sánchez a “bandit.” Among those attending the event were Albert Rivera, Esperanza Aguirre, and Iván Espinosa de los Monteros.
