The Instituto Cervantes (calle Alcalá, 49) celebrates next Wednesday at 12 o’clock the International Women’s Day with an exceptional triple legacy in the Caja de las Letras, dedicated to the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino, founded in 1926. This act pays homage to three of its pioneering figures, Clara Campoamor, Victoria Kent and Elena Fortún, decisive women in the conquest of rights, cultural modernization and intellectual openness of Spain.
Free admission until full capacity, with priority seat reservation on Eventbrite. Also, the event can be followed on the website of the Institute and by its YouTube channel.
Clara Campoamor, the woman voter and a symbol of civil equality; Elena Fortún, renewing children’s literature and creating an imaginary of freedom; and Victoria Kent, pioneer of law and reference in prison reform, will be the protagonists of the event and after the deposit of legacies, an excerpt from the play Victoria Kent or the true identity of Madame Duval will be made by the theater company Arte for Art Productions.
Her legacies are incorporated into the Box of Letters in recognition of her courage, her thinking and her contribution to women’s equality and freedom. The event will be closed by Francina Armengol, president of the Congress of Deputies.
Carmen Calvo, president of the Council of State; Dolores Ramos, historian and professor, and Christina Linares, editor, will also participate in the event.
