Robles warns that “only Ukrainians can say how far they are willing to concede”

The Diplomat Defense Minister Margarita Robles warned on Thursday, February 26, that in any potential negotiations, “only Ukrainians can say how far they are willing to concede.” “Thousands upon thousands of Ukrainian citizens have died, have lost everything,” Robles recalled during a videoconference with officials from the Ukrainian Border Guard, a wartime branch of the Armed Forces tasked with protecting Ukraine’s land, river, and sea borders. Therefore, Robles stated, “they must be the ones” to lead any solution at any potential negotiations. “Only Ukrainians can say how far they are willing to concede,” she warned. Robles' participation in the videoconference is part of her regular contacts with Ukrainian defense authorities and, in this case, coincided with the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion. During the meeting, the minister insisted that Spain will continue to provide support to Ukraine "for as long as necessary" and that the European Union cannot "lower its guard" and must continue to press for a "just and lasting peace."
