Until next May 10, Fundación Casa de México in Spain (calle de Alberto Aguilera, 20) presents the exhibition Suave Patria. The greatness of Mexican popular art, as part of FITUR 2026, with the aim of spreading the cultural wealth, traditions and Mexican popular art.
The exhibition brings together 80 pieces from various regions of the country and highlights artisanal techniques such as glazed clay, wood from Olinalá, paper amate, embroidery and textile weaving, reflecting the creative diversity of Mexico.
Curated by Fernando Feres, founder and creative director of Nouvelaïre Atelier, the exhibition offers a contemporary vision of traditional crafts that have endured for generations. Through an avant-garde and sophisticated museographic proposal, popular art is presented from a current perspective that dialogues with design and contemporary aesthetics without losing its historical essence.
The exhibition is complemented with photographs from the book Cuisine that awakens: the power of inheritance, published by Gastrolab and Heraldo Editions. This project brings together the knowledge and flavors of 31 traditional cooks and one chef, representatives of each state of Mexico, and pays tribute to both emblematic ingredients and those who preserve the country’s culinary legacy.
Suave Patria is part of a comprehensive program of the Fundación Casa de México in Spain focused on preserving and strengthening popular art. This effort includes the creation of a collection of more than 800 pieces, the realization of craft workshops and a new program aimed at identifying and protecting techniques at risk of disappearing. Popular art, deeply connected to the natural environment and transmitted from generation to generation, is thus conceived as a living legacy that reflects the memory, diversity and cultural identity of Mexico.
