The Teatro del Instituto Francés in Madrid is screening tomorrow, Tuesday at 8 p.m., the film El Arquitecto (L’inconnu de la Grande Arche), directed by Stéphane Demoustier in 2025. Book at this link. Projection in original version subtitled in Spanish.
The drama El Arquitecto, which will premiere on movie screens on March 13, stars Claes Bang, Michel Fau, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Xavier Dolan and Swann Arlaud, among others.
El Arquitecto is a fascinating tale where artistic ambition meets the gears of power. Claes Bang gives life to Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, an idealist architect who, overnight, is at the forefront of the greatest architectural project of his time. Between absolute vision and political commitments, the construction of The Architect becomes an epic as human as it is dizzying.
In 1983, the new French government calls for the largest architectural competition. Coveted by the big studios, the winner is, surprisingly, an absolute stranger: Johan Otto von Spreckelsen, a Danish architecture professor who until then had only built his house and three small chapels. Suddenly, he is at the forefront of a colossal project: the construction of the Arc de la Défense in Paris. “Spreck” will soon discover that, to preserve his vision, he will have to face the political game. Then begins the real pulse between art and power.
