King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez received the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, in Madrid this Friday. During the visit, President Pirc Musar extended an invitation to the King and Queen to pay a state visit to Slovenia in 2027.

The Slovenian leader visited Madrid to participate in the second GWL Voices Dialogue, a platform for analyzing the current geopolitical landscape and exploring solutions in which women act as agents of change.

Nataša Pirc Musar, born in 1968 and President of Slovenia since December 23, 2022, visited the Zarzuela Palace accompanied by the Spanish Ambassador to Ljubljana, Javier Herrera García-Cantauri, and the Secretary of State for the European Union, Fernando Sampedro. Representing Slovenia were the Slovenian ambassador to Madrid, Tadej Rupel, and the president’s foreign policy advisor, Damian Bergant.

According to the Slovenian Presidency, President Pirc Musar took the opportunity to invite King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to pay a state visit to Slovenia in 2027, to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Spain and Slovenia established diplomatic relations in 1992. The last visit by the King and Queen of Spain to Slovenia was made by Juan Carlos I and Sofía in 2002.

Later, the Slovenian president met with Pedro Sánchez on the sidelines of the GWL Voices forum. During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Nataša Pirc Musar discussed bilateral relations and expressed their support for the European Union’s enlargement process, particularly with the Western Balkans, Moldova, and Ukraine, provided they implement the necessary internal reforms. They also welcomed the progress made on the EU-Mercosur agreement.
