Within the Madrid Design Festival 2026, on 6 February at 11 am will be inaugurated in the Gallery of the Instituto Cultural Rumano in Madrid the exhibition Transylvanian Design Week, included in the Madrid Design section of the ninth edition of the festival, in the presence of Commissioner Gyárfás Oláh.

Tradition and heritage reinterpreted through contemporary design: fashion, objects, jewellery, experimental animation and artistic installations.

The exhibition, hosted by the ICR Madrid Gallery until 4 March, offers the public a fascinating immersion in the creative universe of the region of Transylvania (Romania).

On the same day, 6 February, starting at 7 p.m., the exhibition will be open to the general public with a guided tour led by the curator himself.

The exhibition brings together the most outstanding projects from the 2023 and 2025 editions of the biennial Transylvanian Design Week, presenting the works of 20 designers that offer a contemporary look on how traditions and cultural heritage are reinterpreted through design (fashion, object, jewellery, experimental animation and art installations). These creators and their works embody the spirit of Transylvanian Design Week and the region of Transylvania.

The curator of the exhibition, Gyárfás Oláh, is a renowned sculptor and designer, author of the uniforms of the Romanian Olympic team for the Paris Olympics, designer of the eco-design brand PATZAIKIN and exhibitor in the project HEMP – Back to the Future, Pavilion of Romania at the World Expo Osaka 2025.

Diseñadores participantes: Zsolt Burján, Catrinel Săbăciag, Adél-Éva Csató, Botond Csiby-Gindele, Crina Bulprich, Adorján Czirják, Darius Iova, István Esztány, Melinda Kádár, Mara Popa, Hannah Gizella Márkus, Róbert Mátyás, Mihai Gâdei, Antónia Ravasz, Attila Sándor, Sarolt Sógor, Simon George, Melissza Sztojka, Krisztina Vass and Yulia Efros.

The event is organized by the Instituto Cultural Rumano of Madrid, under the auspices of the Embassy of Romania, together with Madrid Design Festival, Muzeul Secuiesc al Ciucului and the Municipality of Miercurea-Ciuc of Romania.

Launched in 2023, TDW is one of the largest design events in Romania. Its aim is to bring together designers from the Transylvanian region, give the public a glimpse into their work and at the same time explore the existence of a common direction for this creative community in the field of design. The TDW has showcased the work of nearly 100 local designers and organized numerous creative programmes, attracting thousands of visitors.
