In this year 2026, a tribute is paid to Andrzej Wajda, one of the great masters of world cinema and one of the most influential figures of 20th-century Polish culture.
The Instituto Polaco de Cultura joins all initiatives, actions and projects linked to the worldwide celebrations of the Andrzej Wajda Year, which will be published on a regular basis on the website.
The year coincides with the centenary of his birth and, by resolution of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, will be dedicated to his memory.
Wajda was the creator of the Polish Film School and a key voice in the so-called cinema of moral unrest with such outstanding films as Generation (Pokolenie, 1955), Canal (Kanał, 1957), Ashes and diamonds (Popiół i diament, 1958), Land of great promise (Ziemia obiecana, 1975), The Marble Man (Człowiek z marmuru, 1977), The Iron Man (Człowiek z żelaza, 1981) and Katyn (2007), among many others. A committed cinema. A cinema that looks history in the face. A cinema that speaks of freedom, responsibility and human dignity. His films do not belong only to the past. They continue to dialogue with the present and continue to inspire new generations of viewers around the world.
Throughout 2026, the Institute will invite you to rediscover its work through special screenings, meetings, debates and cultural activities that will value an artistic legacy of universal scope.
