The Diplomat

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has condemned the ballistic missile and drone attacks carried out this Saturday by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, which have left several provinces of the country without electricity, water, and heating and caused the death of at least one person.
“I condemn the launch of Russian ballistic missiles and drones against Ukraine, which have hit civilian targets, causing deaths and deepening the energy crisis,” Albares wrote on social media. “These are unacceptable violations of International Law. Spain is working for a just and lasting peace,” he added. The new Russian attacks, in which 21 missiles and 375 drones were used, coincided with the start of the first trilateral peace negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported the launch of high-precision, long-range missiles and the use of attack drones against drone manufacturing workshops and against “energy facilities used in the interest of Ukraine’s military industry.” For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha denounced, via the social media platform X, that “Putin cynically ordered a brutal, massive missile attack against Ukraine just as delegations were meeting in Abu Dhabi to advance the US-led peace process. His missiles not only hit our people, but also the negotiating table.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday called on his European partners not to delay the delivery of anti-aircraft batteries.
