‘Tebanas’ arrives at the Teatro de La Abadía, a mix of Western classics

The Teatro de La Abadía presents from tomorrow and until next February 15 the synthesized version of Ay Teatro on four theatrical summits of the West in the show Tebanas.

The company, formed by the stage director Yayo Cáceres and the poet and playwright Álvaro Tato, together with the producer Emilia Yagüe, brings together in this montage the four great Greek tragedies such as Oedipus King and Antigone, of Sophocles, Seven against Thebes, of Aeschylus, and Phoenicis, of Euripides, with space for a small tribute to the genius of the Attic comedy, Aristophanes, in the intermission of Los muertos, which serves as comic relief.

This company continues to approach the classical texts from a contemporary and surprising perspective in which highlights a simple, direct and resounding staging based on physicality, relentless rhythm and original music performed live.

The choice of these great titles of Sophocles, Aeschylus and Euripides responds to three criteria that are part of the DNA of the company. On the one hand, for its theatricality, power and simplicity: “Few classical works lend themselves to such close re-readings, in the lucidity of their revelations, their conflicts and their catharsis” comment from the company. At a time when we live in permanent crisis, “questions such as truth, justice and social and individual identity”, it is necessary to reencounter these great myths. On the other hand, by the firm commitment of Ay Teatro from its beginnings to classical theatre to bring them closer to the public with unusual and surprising artistic approaches.

Two morning functions will be offered, on January 30 and February 4, with colloquium, designed especially for young people, since the function is from 14 years. On the evening of 3 February, a meeting between the company and the public will take place after the performance. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
