As announced by The Diplomat last November, the Teatro Fernán Gómez.Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid hosts the premiere of Rent, the musical by Jonathan Larson, winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize.
With the artistic direction, development and adaptation of José Luis Sixto, musical direction, arrangements and adaptation of César Belda and the design of choreographies by Analía González, the casting of this musical, which will be on display until January 25, 2026, has been very exquisite and have chosen some excellent singers, dancers and actors.
Rent narrates a year in the life of a group of young artists who fight for their dreams in a world marked by precariousness, rebellion and the desire to change everything. Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, the musical takes the foundations of romantic tragedy and relocates them to 90s New York.
Premiered on Broadway in 1996 (Larson died the night before the premiere) marked a before and after in musical theatre history. It stayed on Broadway for 12 years, becoming one of the longest-running musicals in history.
In the work of Jonathan Larson, a group of young artists raise their voices among the noise of the world. They create, fight, embrace, fall and celebrate life as an act of resistance. Survive the present without fear, living the now without filters, without certainties, clinging to friendship, to music, to the freedom to be oneself, to choose who one is, to love and to dream of a home beyond any wall. In Rent, love has no boundaries and life is measured in love. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
