Tomorrow, Thursday at 6pm, the Embassy of Ecuador celebrates in the Iberia Room of Casa América the International Migrant Day, and does it with cinema, after a year full of successes in celluloid.

This 2025 has marked a milestone in the history of Ecuador. On the one hand, we commemorate 25 years of the beginning of the Ecuadorian migration to Spain, and on the other hand this has been a great year for the country’s audiovisual sector: it won the award for Best Screenplay with the film Hiedra, by Ana Cristina Barragán, at the Venice Film Festival; the animated short El extraño caso del hombre bala, by Beto València, has established itself as the most awarded short in Latin America; the film Los Ahogados, by Juan Sebastián Jacome and Víctor Mares, has been nominated to represent Ecuador at the Goya awards, among others…

For this reason, the celebration of this year’s International Migrant Day is of particular importance to this Embassy and its migrant community, to which we want to pay tribute through audiovisual productions that reflect the cultural wealth and legacy of Ecuadorian artists and chefs in the diaspora.

A special program will take place, with a teaser of the documentary of gastronomy in Madrid: Ecuador, hidden treasure of Latin America x Raíz Ecuador, a tour of the flavors that travel, transform and revolutionize the Spanish capital, by the hand of the label Raíz Ecuador. The short film will also be screened: El extraño caso del hombre bala, by director Beto Valencia, a powerful story that captures the creativity of current Ecuadorian cinema, and which for its quality and content has become the most awarded audiovisual piece in the history of Ecuador.

We will then present the Ecuadorian musical project recorded in Matadero, by director Juan Monsalve, an exclusive preview of one of the most anticipated productions of 2025 in the musical world. The film nominated for the Goya Awards: Los ahogados, by director Juan Sebastián Jácome will be screened.

The panel Cinema, migration and identity will be developed as a space to reflect on how stories of displacement, roots and community become cinematic narrative and cultural heritage. This event will end with a networking cocktail for the guests. Attendance must be confirmed on this form.
