Eduardo González

The wife of Spanish prisoner Pablo Ibar, who is serving a life sentence in the United States for the alleged commission of three murders for which he was sentenced to death until 2019, has stated that the defense is “very close” to proving his innocence.
In a video sent to the Pablo Ibar-Fair Trial Association, Tanya Ibar expresses her gratitude to Spanish society. “We couldn't have come this far without all of you. Thank you, and I pray that you continue fighting for Pablo, for us, and help us bring him home once and for all,” she said. Ibar is serving a life sentence in the United States for three murders committed in 1994 in the state of Florida, for which he has always maintained his innocence. In 2000, he was sentenced to death, but in February 2016, the Florida Supreme Court overturned the capital punishment and ordered a retrial, ruling that he had received ineffective legal representation and had been convicted on “scarce and weak” evidence. In the second trial, the court again found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment after the jury failed to reach the unanimous verdict required for a second death sentence. In the video, Tanya Ibar expresses her gratitude for the social and financial support the family receives, primarily from Spain, and shares her optimism following the revelation by a witness who exonerated Pablo Ibar of the three murders and also provided the judge with the identities of the true perpetrators of that brutal crime. “This wonderful news we recently received has filled us with hope. We pray that, with this, things will improve greatly for Pablo, for us, and that they will truly help him return home,” she says. Therefore, she asks Spanish society to “continue fighting for Pablo,” because “we need it more than ever.” “We are very close” to proving Pablo Ibar’s innocence, she asserts. “I pray that people continue to raise their voices, helping with donations, contributing, because we haven’t been able to do it alone,” she continues. Pablo Ibar, her husband, has been deprived of his freedom for thirty-one years, sixteen of which he spent on death row. Thanks to the work carried out by the Pablo Ibar-Fair Trial Association, Pablo Ibar managed to raise almost one million dollars to face a legal process that ended in May 2019 and overturned the death sentence to which he had previously been condemned, for which Ibar spent sixteen years on death row. Currently, the Association remains immersed in the same task and has just reactivated its crowdfunding campaign. Therefore, the NGO is appealing for support for Pablo Ibar and offers the possibility of making financial contributions through its website, www.pabloibar.com, and social media. The Association also has a Bizum line to facilitate and expedite donations. To use it, donors must open their bank's Bizum app and go to the DONATE tab, or similar. Once this option is selected, they should type "Pablo Ibar" into the search bar, and the PABLO IBAR FAIR TRIAL ASSOCIATION will appear by default. After selecting the Association, simply follow the instructions provided by the bank. Donors can also make donations via bank transfer to the following BBVA accounts: ES60 0182 0361 8202 0158 6200, and Laboral Kutxa: ES71 3035 0029 64 0290103319.
