‘The war in Ukraine and the Eurasian world order’, by Glenn Diesen

Author: Glenn Diesen.

The war in Ukraine is a symptom of the collapse of the world order. A proxy war, unprecedented sanctions and efforts to isolate Russia have contributed to the demise of liberal hegemony. Much of the world responded by intensifying its transition towards a Euro-Asian world order that rejects liberal hegemony and universalism. Russia’s defeat in Ukraine would restore the unipolar world order, while a Russian victory would cement a multipolar one. The international system is now at its most dangerous, with no prospect of compromise, meaning that the winner will take it all.
