This afternoon at 18.30, the Embassy of Honduras presents in the Iberia Room of Casa América the screening of the documentary Whitney, written and directed by the Honduran filmmaker Katia Lara. Free admission up to 45 seats. Tickets will be distributed one hour before the start of screenings at the Information Point box office.

Whitney Godoy, under the gaze of a young journalist, documents from within the “First Caravan of Migrants” that took place in 2018. His story became the memory of a revealing journey, a testimony to the unwavering hope of the Honduran people. The documentary offers a critical and deeply human look at one of the most pressing issues of our time.

The film had its world premiere at the prestigious DocsMX International Documentary Film Festival in Mexico.

Katia Lara is a renowned Central American filmmaker who plays roles as director, screenwriter, producer and cameraman. She also has a long career as a journalist. She is co-founder and general manager of Terco Producciones. His works include the acclaimed productions awarded at international festivals: Quién dijo miedo… Honduras de un golpe (2010) and the multi-award-winning short film Berta soy yo (2016), as well as the latest of all, Whitney (2025). His work focuses on non-fiction. Social and political themes, memory and identity, permeate his entire filmography.

The welcome to the event will be provided by Marlon Brevé, Ambassador of Honduras in Spain, and they will present the film Whitney Godoy, journalist and protagonist of the documentary and Katia Lara, director of the film (by video).

The documentary concretely tells how Whitney, a journalism student, covers the 2018 migrant caravan on foot. There are thousands, almost all Hondurans, willing to come together to the United States. Crossing Mexico there is no return, Whitney is an “undocumented” more, but does not give up the trade. Her lens witnesses a failed system. He no longer cares about risking his graduation and life, his empathy for the suffering of others is stronger.
