The Spanish State Secretary for International Cooperation (SECI), Eva Granados Galiano, made an official visit to Costa Rica last week to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as sustainable agriculture, bioeconomy, biodiversity, climate change, and social cohesion.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit took place from November 25 to 28 and coincided with the tenth anniversary of the Spanish Cooperation Office (OCE) in Costa Rica.

Eva Granados visited several projects in the Huetar Norte region that “integrate technological innovation and environmental sustainability,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and the National Technical University (UTN) of Costa Rica.

The agenda continued at Tenorio Volcano National Park, where the delegation met with representatives from the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) and ProParques to discuss the efficient management of protected areas within the framework of the European Union’s Euroclima Programme’s “Costa Rica is Biodiversity 30×30” project, aimed at conserving 30% of terrestrial and marine ecosystems by 2030.

The delegation also visited the project “The Heart of the Gulf of Nicoya: Rebirth of Coastal Communities through Mangroves,” led by the Tropical Science Center (CCT) of Costa Rica, and met in the capital, San José, with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC) to strengthen bilateral dialogue following Costa Rica’s upgrade to high-income country status by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
