The Council of Ministers authorized on Tuesday, November 25, a voluntary contribution from Spain to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), amounting to one million euros.
The African Union (AU) Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) was launched on January 1, 2025, with the objective of preventing the complete destabilization of Somalia, which would have implications for the entire Horn of Africa region and could affect the Sahel, a priority region for Spain.
The purpose of this contribution is to address the financial impasse the Mission is facing. More specifically, it aims to contribute to strengthening the African peace and security structure, bolster security, and support Somalia’s transition to a stable, secure, prosperous, and united country. Other objectives are to prevent the financial collapse of AUSSOM so that it can fulfill its mandate and address the serious challenges that remain for Somalia.
