El Potosí Submarino will go up to the tables of the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid to immerse the spectators in a very amusing sea in 10 performances scheduled between 19 and 30 November. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

This work is a comic-fantastic zarzuela in three acts and verse. The original version dates back to 1870, a time when the bufo theater triumphed over the stages with works of fantastic appearance that hid a deep criticism of society. In those years, individual profit, corruption or the ball were the order of the day, a perfect scenario for characters hungry for wealth to carry out their “scheming”. Under the guise of a work by Jules Verne, the zarzuela hides a political satire centered on corruption, influence peddling and how both serve to satisfy the ambition of a society that seeks wealth at any price.

This adaptation takes the viewer to Spain in 1993. “The year of the hangover”, in which Spaniards must learn to look for profitability on everything invested for the events that, in 1992, made Spain visible to the world (the Barcelona Olympic Games, the Seville Expo, the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government and the European Capital of Culture in Madrid).
