The Council of Ministers authorized on Tuesday the modification of the spending limits for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to allocate €458,000 to the renovation of the headquarters of the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union (EU REPER) in Brussels.

EU REPER’s administrative headquarters are located in the so-called Spain Complex, comprised of four adjacent buildings. In preparation for Spain’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which took place between July 1 and December 31, 2023, a renovation process was initiated affecting the four buildings. The aim was to expand and adapt the spaces, improving their layout and functionality to facilitate better coordination and communication among the teams of the different departments.

In order to continue the complex’s renovation process, in 2025 the advance processing of three expenditure files will begin, with impact on the 2026 fiscal year. These files cover the renovation of the Regent 50 building, the renewal of perimeter security and access equipment for the EU REPER network, and the renewal of the EU REPER network’s core communications equipment. The total cost is €458,000, which will be charged to the budget item ‘Replacement investment associated with the operational functioning of services’.

For this reason, the Council of Ministers has authorized the modification of limits for acquiring expenditure commitments against future fiscal years, pursuant to Article 47 of Law 47/2003, of November 26, the General Budget Law, in order to enable the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out the aforementioned remodeling and refurbishment works at the EU REPER.
