From tomorrow until next Saturday at 19.30 hours, and on Sunday 9 to 18 hours, the Teatro del Barrio de Madrid (calle Zurita, 20) presents the work Sahara, Sahara, the boat of the desert.
The play tells the story of a Canarian nurse who arrives in El Aaiún in 1970 with the intention of working temporarily at the local hospital. However, his life changes radically when he falls in love with Yahadih, a young Saharawi who joins the Polisario Front in the struggle for independence of Western Sahara.
Her relationship with Yahadih, marked by clandestinity and war, makes her a witness to the abandonment of Spain, the occupation of Morocco and the repression suffered by the Saharans.
In 1991, Mercedes, a journalism student interested in documenting the conflict, visits the refugee camps. Through his conversation, he relives his passage through a territory marked by uncertainty, resistance and loss.
With a mixture of love, betrayal and resistance, The Desert Boat is a human testimony about the personal transformation of a woman caught between two worlds and the struggle of a free people who refuse to disappear.
The Desert Boat is directed by Mario Vega and written by himself along with Ruth Sánchez. The interpretation is carried out by Marta Viera. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
