The Spanish Government on Monday called on the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group and the groups that support them to agree to “an immediate ceasefire” and guarantee “access for humanitarian aid” to “alleviate the conditions of the civilian population, particularly women and children.”

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “utmost concern about the conflict that has ravaged Sudan since April 15, 2023, and its devastating consequences” and recalled that “the situation in El Fasher, after 18 months of siege, has only worsened the humanitarian crisis.”

“We urge the RSF and the groups that support them to agree to an immediate ceasefire and to guarantee access to humanitarian aid and open humanitarian corridors to alleviate the conditions of the civilian population, particularly women and children, who are the most affected victims of this conflict,” the statement continues.

“A solution to the conflict in Sudan is a priority for Spain. We defend the unity and territorial integrity of the country,” the Foreign Ministry states. “We support an inclusive dialogue between all parties, including regional actors and the African Union, to proceed with an orderly and peaceful democratic transition leading to the formation of a civilian government,” it concludes.
