Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez participated this Friday via videoconference in the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, held in London to discuss peace and security for Ukraine.

During the meeting, which was attended by around thirty leaders from different countries and NATO, the European Commission, and the European Council, the possibilities of facilitating a ceasefire and new initiatives to push Russia to end its aggression were analyzed, according to a brief press release from the State Secretariat for Communication.

The Coalition of the Willing was launched last March by France and the United Kingdom with the aim of examining progress regarding security guarantees for Ukraine and analyzing the collective strategy toward Russia. Since then, 35 countries, mostly European, have joined the initiative, as well as Canada, Australia, and Japan.

Among the participants in the meeting were British Prime Minister Keir Starmer; Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky; NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte; Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen; and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, among others.

One of the meeting’s objectives was to specifically address the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine and to try to accelerate negotiations on the use of frozen Russian assets. During the meeting, Keir Starmer called for an increase in the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine.
