As already reported by The Diplomat, last Monday, October 21 took place at Casa América the cultural event Letras de Costa Rica 2025, which has been held in this venue since 2022.

This year, the writers invited were Gabriela Peña Valles, Diego Pintero, Nuria Barrios, Javier Sáenz Libarra, Laura Lozano, Rodolfo Arias, Carlos Cascarte, Silvia Castro, Rolando Durán, Arabella Salaberry and Carlos Francisco Echeverría.

This year’s edition was organized within the framework of the celebration of 175 years of diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and Spain and in collaboration with the Editorial Costa Rica and the Coordinating Committee of Letters of Costa Rica to promote cooperation networks and business relationships from the meeting between actors in the literary industry of Costa Rica and Spain.

“This program aims to promote and share creative works from the meeting between writers, editors, producers and other actors in the literary industry, said Moisés Morera, director of programming at Casa América, who welcomed the attendees. In this house we plan many activities related to the Costa Rican culture and hope to continue doing so for a long time. It is always a pleasure to work with the Embassy of Costa Rica in Madrid.”

In her speech, the ambassador of Costa Rica, Adriana Bolaños, pointed out the importance of celebrating 175 years of relations with Spain “with literature from both sides of the Atlantic. Because today we have outstanding Costa Rican authors, but also a Spanish author who accompanies us. The idea is to convene audiences from both countries and reach out through the word”.

“Today’s event is a collective construction, continued Ambassador Bolaños,  because it says the Embassy of Costa Rica, yes, but really also here there are two other key actors, the Editorial Costa Rica and the Advisory Committee of Editorial Costa Rica, which are, I insist, who have accompanied us to the Embassy to make this possible. And, of course, with the invaluable support of Casa América, without whom we could not carry out all this. I want to recognize finally the work of all the people who have participated, of my people in the Embassy, in the Embassy we are now, as Embassy and Consulate, three diplomats, and two administrative ones, who do it from Consulate, that it is the people who talk about you when you need something, all the way through politics, cooperation, tourism, culture, like today, so it really is a very tactical job, thanks to the people of Casa América and the Embassy, that we are comfortable for this to be possible.
