The Embassy of the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Film of the Dominican Republic (DGCINE) and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), and the Dominican Consulate General in Madrid, announces the celebration of the 14th edition of the Todo Cine. Todo Dominicana film festival, an annual event that brings together the best of current Dominican cinema. The event will take place from October 25 to 28 and November 3 to 5, in various theaters throughout the city of Madrid.

As every year, this festival aims to showcase the highlights of contemporary Dominican cinema, highlighting its growth as a cultural industry and its impact both nationally and internationally. This year, the public will be able to enjoy a varied program that includes productions about emblematic figures of Dominican culture. Such is the case with La Grande, an intimate look at the life of legendary artist Fefita la Grande, which will open the exhibition on Saturday, October 25th at 5:00 PM at the Centro Cultural José Espronceda in the Tetuán district.

This year, the exhibition’s special gala will be held at the iconic Cines Capitol on Gran Vía, with the screening of the documentary about the outstanding athlete Marileidy Paulino, a production that pays tribute to her inspiring career and symbolizes the pride of the entire nation.

Other productions will also be presented, such as the acclaimed film Sugar Island (pictured), recognized at international festivals, as well as a documentary tribute to Francis Ford Coppola’s classic The Godfather Part II, which was partially filmed in Santo Domingo.

Additionally, titles will be screened such as Aire, by renowned director Leticia Tonos, who will be present during its screening at Casa de América; Olivia y las Nubes, which will include a specialized panel on animation at the Círculo de Bellas Artes; and the drama Madre, a dos centimeters de ti, which will be presented at the Pequeño Cine Estudio.

The program also includes the short film Acordes del destino, a Dominican Republic-Spain co-production, written and directed by Luis Daniel Núñez. The story tells the story of Arturo, a young foreign student in Spain who, facing financial difficulties, decides to entrust his destiny to music.

As part of the pre-screening activities, the Embassy will organize the panel Making Films in the Diaspora, which will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m., in the Auditorio Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo (calle Jorge Juan, 30). This event will bring together filmmakers, producers, and audiovisual industry professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities of making films based on the migrant experience. Admission is free until capacity is reached, and RSVPs via the Embassy’s official email will be appreciated.
