‘Monumental Spain, a history through heritage’, by Eduardo Manzano

Author: Eduardo Manzano.

With 46 UNESCO World Heritage sites, Spain is one of the most historically rich countries in the world, and España monumental, una historia a través del patrimonio (Monumental Spain, a history through heritage) traces for the first time a history of Spain through its legacy.

These enclaves cover virtually all historical periods, from the earliest times to the present day. No other country presents such a wide variety of cultures or civilizations: from prehistoric caves to modernist architecture, megalithic buildings, Roman remains, Muslim mosques, Jewish synagogues, Christian temples or Renaissance, neoclassical or modernist buildings. All these sites have the same diversity that runs through the history of Spain and are present in all the autonomous communities of the state, including the Canary Islands.

Eduardo Manzano guides us on an exciting journey through each and every one of these places following a chronological order that covers from the most remote Prehistory to the contemporary era. Through historical sites that have become world-recognized and recognizable references, the book gives readers the keys to a past in which social conditions existed, economic and political factors which have enabled monuments to be seen and preserved in the course of time, and which have achieved universal resonance.
