This afternoon at 7 pm, the Instituto Cervantes de Madrid (calle Barquillo, 4) presents the book Por qué los refranes siempre tienen razón (Why sayings are always right), by Sonia Gómez-Jordana Ferary. Free admission, with seat reservation. Live on YouTube.
The presentation will be attended by Luis García Montero, director of the Instituto Cervantes; Arsenio Escolar, founder and editor of the project Archiletras; and the linguist and author of the book, Sonia Gómez-Jordana Ferary. As closing of the presentation, La Troupe Teatro will offer a performative theatrical action on sayings
Proverbs or sayings have been relegated by scholars and grammarians to dusty trunks. And yet, these are formulas laden with a great argumentative force that have been and remain present in the discourses of society. Through the study of 25 sayings, the reader will walk through the history of the saying and our way of discussing and arguing. Examples taken from different contexts -networks, the press, literary texts, series and films or our own conversations- will show the reader how a dialectical weapon that never died has been used since the Middle Ages until today.
