Madrid is definitely already a great competitor for the cities that host the best musical productions. Today’s premiere of the acclaimed and famous Wicked, at the Teatro Alcalá (calle Jorge Juan, 62), with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

The impressive and compelling voices of singers Cristina Picos, as Elphaba (the green witch), and Cristina Llorente, as Glinda, impress and fill with heavenly sound the theater, together with some companions, a ballet/ choir (perfectly combined) that offers a majestic show to the sounds of music performed by the orchestra directed masterfully by maestro Joan Miquel Pérez. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

Wicked is based on the successful novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Eicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, and serves as a prologue to Lyman Frank Baum’s 1900 classic The Wizard of Oz (as well as its 1939 contemporary equivalent).

Released in 2003, this musical ranks fourth on the list of longest-running shows in Broadway history, with over 8,000 performances after 21 years of uninterrupted success. It has been translated into more than 15 languages and seen by over 60 million viewers worldwide.
