On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Spain in Europe, the Fundación Alternativas will present a debate on The triple transition: green, digital and social, on 15 October at 9.30 am at the European Commission’s headquarters (Paseo de la Castellana, 46).

Europe and Spain are going through a period of profound change. The so-called “three transitions”  are at the heart of the new economy and Spanish and European society. Forty years after the accession of Spain to the European institutions, the Fundación Alternativas invites us to discuss the rapid changes taking place in these three fundamental and inter-connected areas, to promote reflection and action, as well as giving new direction to key policies for our future.

The Foundation intends to use the historical perspective of this anniversary to highlight the enormous transformations and challenges facing Spain and the EU at the moment.

Nikolaos Isaris, Acting Director of the European Commission’s Representation in Spain, will welcome the event, followed by a special speech by Fernando M. Sampedro, Secretary of State for the European Union.

The debate will be presented by Diego López Garrido, executive vice president of the Fundación Alternativas, following an intervention by María González Veracruz, secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence.

At 10.40 hours will begin the Table 1: 40 years of Spain in Europe. A look back at the Social, Green and Technological agendas with Carmen Calvo, President of the Council of State, and Joaquín Almunia, former Vice-President and European Commissioner for Competition and former Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. Inma Gómez-Lobo, RTVE journalist will moderate.

After a break, at 12 o’clock will take place the Table 2: Social, green and digital Spain, today and tomorrow. An inter-connected agenda, in which will intervene Bruno Estrada, economist; Ana Belén Sánchez, co-director of IE-iGDP Just Transition Observatory, and Emilio García, digital policy analyst. Former Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures. Vicente Palacio, Director of Foreign Policy at the Fundación Alternativas will moderate.

To access the debate, you need to subscribe to this link or follow it on the Foundation’s YouTube channel.
