At its meeting yesterday, the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, appointed Juan Ignacio Morro Villacián as Spain’s new Ambassador to Costa Rica.
A member of the Spanish Diplomatic Service since 1992, he has held numerous posts both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid and abroad. He has served as Spain’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (2023–2025) and as Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (2018–2022). Previously, he was posted to the Embassy in Beijing, the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, the Consulate in Geneva, and the Embassies in Moscow and Seoul.
At the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEUC), he has served as Director-General for the United Nations and Human Rights; Deputy Director-General for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament; Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for European Affairs; and Head of Unit in the Deputy Directorate-General for Maghreb Affairs.
