Last Tuesday, on International Youth Day, the newly established Embassy Youth Council was held at the Ukrainian Embassy.
This Youth Council will be a new space of participation that hopes to be projected towards the more than 130,000 Ukrainians under 30 years old living in Spain, as well as promoting interaction with Spanish youth.
The council is made up of 21 young Ukrainians aged between 18 and 35 who live in different regions of Spain, particularly in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Murcia and other cities. They represent all the diversity of the Ukrainian youth in Spain: those who were born here or moved in their childhood, as well as young people who have found refuge in the country during the large-scale war.
With the presence of the deputy and spokesman in the Committee on Children and Youth of the Congress of Deputies, Víctor Camino, the vice president of the Council of Youth of Spain, Sara Villodre, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian community, the Ukrainian ambassador, Serhii Pohoreltsev, began by honoring the victims of the Russian aggression by pointing out that “the last year of the large-scale criminal invasion of Ukraine caused even more deaths of boys and girls than in the previous two years”.
In his speech, the ambassador stressed the importance of the active participation of youth in the formation of a strong Ukrainian community abroad, in strengthening the dialogue between youth and diplomatic institutions, as well as promoting a positive image of Ukraine in Spain and the world.
“This Council is destined to become a platform for uniting active Ukrainian youth, a generator of ideas and a space for carrying out joint projects in the field of youth policies, public diplomacy, volunteering and reconstruction of Ukraine. I am confident that, thanks to you, the Ukrainian voice in Spain will be heard more strongly,” said the ambassador.
The development of this initiative in Spain by the Embassy has been carried out with the technical support of the Instituto 9 de Mayo.
