The colossal fierce comedy ‘A Wild God’, arrives at the Teatro Alcazar

From tomorrow Friday, the Teatro Alcázar de Madrid (calle Alcalá, 20) presents one of the most acclaimed and acute theatrical texts of the 21st century, A Wild God, by the French playwright Yasmina Reza, Author recognized for her sharp look at human relations and contemporary social codes.

This long-awaited production will feature a stellar cast: Luis Merlo, Natalia Millán, Clara Sanchis and Juanan Lumbreras, under the direction of Tamzin Townsend, one of the most prominent figures on the national scene. The version of the text is written by the playwright and screenwriter Jordi Galcerán, author of hits such as El método Grönholm or Burundanga.

This fierce comedy about the fragility of civilization was originally released in 2006 in Zurich under the title Le Dieu du Carnage, and quickly became an international theatrical phenomenon. Its passage through Paris, London and Broadway consolidated it as an indispensable piece of modern theatre. In Spain, its first version was received with unanimous ovations by critics and public, marking a milestone in the recent history of our tables. Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster starred in her film adaptation under the direction of Roman Polanski.

Now, this new staging in the heart of Madrid invites the viewer to look into the abyss of coexistence and hypocrisy, through a story as simple as universal: two couples come together to solve, with apparent civility, a fight between their children. What begins as an educated and reasonable conversation becomes a spiral of reproaches, restrained aggressiveness and heated conflicts that explode with ferocity.

With corrosive humor and milimetrically calculated dialogues, the author puts social norms, the masks of bourgeois welfare and the thin line between civilization and instinct in check.

A wild god is not only a brilliant comedy; it is also a mirror-sometimes cruel, sometimes hilarious-of our daily lives. To what extent are we as civilized as we think? What happens when we scratch the veneer of courtesy a little? What if the defense of our values is just an excuse to impose our territory? Tickets can be purchased at this link.
