Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares condemned this Friday the missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia on Thursday night against civilian targets in Kyiv, which left at least 31 people dead, including five children.

“I condemn the massive Russian attacks against the civilian population of Ukraine, which have left at least 31 dead, including five children, in Kyiv. My condolences to their families,” the minister wrote on social media. “Our support for Ukraine is firm. Russia must abandon the path of terror and sit down to negotiate a ceasefire as a first step toward a just and lasting peace,” he added.

The massive attack, carried out against several locations in the Ukrainian capital, left at least 31 dead, including five children (one aged two), and more than 150 injured, according to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that this “vile” attack “demonstrates the need to increase pressure on Moscow and impose additional sanctions” and denounced that, “in July alone, Russia used more than 5,100 gliding bombs against Ukraine, more than 3,800 Shaheds (kamikaze drones), and nearly 260 missiles of various types, 128 of them ballistic missiles.” “This can only be stopped through joint efforts: by the United States, Europe, and other global actors,” he added.
