The Diplomat

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez held his traditional summer meeting with King Felipe VI this Tuesday at the Marivent Palace in Palma. He discussed, on international matters, the recent tariff agreement between the European Union and the United States and other trade agreements "of particular interest to Spain," such as the Mercosur agreement.
In his appearance before the media after the meeting, Pedro Sánchez insisted that "the economic situation our country is experiencing is clearly positive, especially when compared to other economies in our region, given the complex international situation the world is experiencing." "The IMF once again projects Spain as the largest European economy with the highest growth rate in Europe for the second consecutive year," with a forecast of 2.5%, he stated. "The Spanish economy, job creation, policies to reduce inequality, and an international agenda where Spain projects a coherent policy of respect for international law, whether in Gaza or Ukraine," as well as "openness to other trading blocs, such as Mercosur, inspire optimism and confidence in the possibilities and the current economic and social situation in our country," he continued. On international matters, as explained at the press conference, Pedro Sánchez and the King discussed the trade agreement reached on Monday between the European Union and the United States, as well as the Spanish government's position regarding other trade agreements "that hopefully can be reached in the future and that are of particular interest to Spain," such as the European Union's agreement with Mercosur, to create "the largest free trade zone in the world." He also informed the King about his recent visits to Mauritania, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
