Albares will defend the two-state solution at the UN this Monday

Eduardo González The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, traveled to New York this Friday to participate in the UN High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, where he will speak this coming Monday, July 28, in favor of the recognition of the Palestinian State. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release, this International Conference on the implementation of the two-state solution is "a Spanish proposal that has been integrated into the European Council Conclusions since October 2023." In November 2023, the Ministry continued, the proposal was adopted at the Joint Summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, where the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, referred to it as "Spain's proposal." The Conference will be co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, as well as supported by more than 90 countries and international organizations through the Global Partnership for the Two-State Solution, promoted by the Madrid+ Group. Specifically, French President Emmanuel Macron announced this Thursday that his government will recognize Palestine as a state during the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September 2025. "This solution is the only path capable of addressing the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians," the French president emphasized in a letter addressed to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
