<h6><strong>The Diplomat</strong></h6> <h4><strong>Spain welcomed 52 million international air passengers in the first half of the year, 6.4% more than in 2024. According to data from Turespaña, a total of 10.7 million passengers were registered in June alone, representing a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year.</strong></h4> In the sixth month of the year, the main source markets saw passenger increases, continuing the upward trend recorded since the end of the pandemic. Regarding market diversification, the increases in China and South Korea stood out, in addition to passenger increases in Turkey and Colombia. Regarding the main source markets, the United Kingdom generated 23.6% of the total arrival flow with 2.5 million international passengers, registering a year-on-year increase of 2.1%. The Balearic Islands were the main destination for British visitors, accounting for 26.9% of passengers, followed by the Canary Islands, with a share of 20.7%. Germany accounted for 13.6% of the total number of passengers, equivalent to 1.4 million, a year-on-year increase of 1%. Although the Balearic Islands were the main destination, with a 46.4% share of arrivals, these decreased by 1.6%. Catalonia and the Canary Islands, the next largest destinations, grew by 3.6% and 2.7% respectively. Italy accounted for 9.7% of the total number of passengers received in June, representing a year-on-year growth of 8.4%. In this case, the Community of Madrid and Catalonia together accounted for 53.8% of arrivals. France, meanwhile, accounted for 7.3% of total passengers in June, showing a 2.5% increase. In their case, Catalonia and Madrid accounted for 46.7% of total arrivals. Passengers arriving from the Netherlands represented 4.6% of the total, experiencing an increase of 3.5%. They mainly went to Catalonia and the Valencian Community, with their respective shares of around 20.8% and 19%, respectively. All regions except the Canary Islands recorded year-on-year growth, with Andalusia and the Basque Country standing out. <h5><strong>Regions and airports</strong></h5> In June, it is worth noting that the six main Autonomous Communities (Community of Madrid, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Andalusia, and the Valencian Community) accounted for 97.1% of total arrivals. All registered increases, with the strongest in the Valencian Community, at 10.7%, and the most moderate in the Community of Madrid, at 1.5%. The Balearic Islands accounted for the largest number of passengers this month, with 21.4% of arrivals. Regarding airports, Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport received the most arrivals from traditional airlines in June, with 1.7 million (up 3.3%), followed by Barcelona with 681,571 international passengers (up 4.4%), and Palma with 584,278 arrivals (down 1.5%). The largest year-over-year increase was recorded at Valencia Airport, with 12.2% more arrivals.
