A total of 16 women and thirteen men passed the final competitive examination for entry into the Diplomatic Service, Foreign Affairs sources informed The Diplomat this Tuesday. This means that, for the third time in history, women will outnumber men in the 77th Diplomatic Service class.
According to the aforementioned sources, the results of the Diplomatic Service competitive examinations were released this Tuesday. In total, 29 people passed: 16 women and 13 men. In addition, one woman passed through the access system reserved for people with disabilities, the only one who made it to the final exam.
The first class with more women than men was the 74th, approved in December 2022 and held in 2023, in which there were 21 women and 14 men, for a total of 35 positions. It was, therefore, the first class in the history of the Diplomatic Service with more female than male representation.
“This class has made history because it is the first in which there are more women than men,” said King Felipe VI in January 2023, during the ceremony to present the offices of Secretary of the Embassy to the 74th class of the Diplomatic Service. The second class was the 2024-2025 class, corresponding to the 76th class, with a total of 17 women and 11 men. The first class with equal representation was the previous one, the 73rd, with 17 men and 17 women.
