The ambassador of Brazil, Orlando Leite Ribeiro, organized last Friday a cocktail at his residence on the occasion of his farewell to the head of the Brazilian Diplomatic Mission.

In a brief but moving speech, Ambassador Orlando Leite Ribeiro thanked the guests for attending, especially the President of the Constitutional Court of Spain, Cándido Conde-Pumpido.

“An ambassador who retired a long time ago taught me that in a speech, you have to speak out loud to be heard, clear to be understood and little to be applauded at the end. So I think that after three years talking porteñol, I think everyone here understands me very well”, began the Brazilian ambassador.

“I will try to be brief, commented the ambassador. This is a farewell moment, I will not take stock of what were my three years and three months here, but they were wonderful years. Marvellous for the way in which Madrid received me, in which Spain received me, in which you received me.”

Orlando Leite Ribeiro continued, noting that “this was my first embassy as an ambassador and it is difficult to leave here for another embassy, although my destination is Prague, a very nice city and very close to Madrid, a city that has everything for us who are Brazilians, we are Latinos. There is the warmth of the people, there is a very great importance for Brazil, here in what represents Spain as the second largest investor in my country. I’m not going to say it was a surprise because I actually knew exactly what awaited me here”.

“We had the opportunity to do a lot of things together in the cultural part, in the economic part, in the commercial part and I am very happy with the result. The only thing I would like to do now is thank you all for all the support you have given me so that these three years were what they were, a wonder. Thank you all”, concluded Ambassador Orlando Leite Ribeiro.

Many friends and colleagues wanted to be present at such an emotional farewell.
