The Spanish government has expressed its “consternation” over the tragedy caused by the flooding of the Guadalupe River in Texas, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 80 people, including dozens of children, and more than 40 missing.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spain “extends its condolences to the families and friends of the victims and its solidarity with the government and the friendly people of the United States.”

Torrential rains in south-central Texas have already caused at least 82 deaths, according to the latest data from local authorities. Emergency teams are also continuing to search for 10 girls and a counselor who were at the Mystic Christian camp when the Guadalupe River began to rise early Friday morning. US President Donald Trump has announced the deployment of federal aid to assist the victims.
