Feijóo in his speech during the closing of the PP’s 21st Congress

At the closing ceremony of the 21st National Congress of the People’s Party (PP), held yesterday in Madrid, Alberto Núñez Feijóo reaffirmed his position as the party’s undisputed leader with 99% of the votes. His final speech focused on rebuilding the country, promoting a policy of national unity, and taking a firm stance against corruption and separatism.

Feijóo began his address by stating that the congress had been “the founding act of a new era” and promised that, if he reaches La Moncloa, he will not form coalitions with minority or separatist parties, except through dialogue within the framework of the Constitution. His message was clear: “There are only two options: Sánchez or me. I want a single-party government.” With Spanish and EU flags behind him, his speech focused on the kind of government he plans to lead if elected president.

Regarding political alliances, Feijóo reiterated that he would not impose a veto on Vox, recognizing its position as the third-largest political force: “Their voters deserve respect, and I will not push them aside.” The only party to face a political cordon sanitaire, he warned, would be EH Bildu — at least until they apologize for ETA’s violence.

Feijóo strongly criticized Pedro Sánchez’s government, accusing it of plunging Spain into “institutional chaos.” He proposed a ten-point plan that includes democratic renewal, tax reform, an immediate housing strategy, and the defense of national unity. He insisted that Sánchez’s tenure should be seen as “a parenthesis in our history.”

The PP president also addressed the fight against corruption, presenting his platform as a “manual of decency”: demanding exemplary behavior, rejecting double standards, and applying the rule of law rigorously throughout the party.

Feijóo concluded his speech with a call for internal unity and optimism ahead of the elections. He was supported on stage by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who praised him with a firm statement: “The party is yours; we’ll always be by your side.” With his leadership consolidated and a team led by Miguel Tellado as secretary general, the PP is preparing for a campaign aimed at regaining citizens’ trust and governing alone.

In short, Feijóo’s final speech defined a cohesive and principled PP: committed to governing solo, open to dialogue with Vox and PSOE but excluding Bildu, and guided by a platform focused on political renewal and defense of constitutional order.
